Maruti Suzuki's new Rs 11,000 cr Sonipat plant to be its largest yet: 250,000 units/ year to start with

The news about Maruti Suzuki's new manufacturing facility made headlines last year as well when word was that this would be the company's third in the state of Haryana and possibly the largest. Maruti Suzuki has now confirmed that the process of land allotment for the facility was completed today.
The new manufacturing unit will be built on a site across 800 acres at IMT Kharkhoda in Sonipat with Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited).While Maruti has not stated anything in this regard, the third facility in Sonipat is expected to be its largest based on the area it is being built on.

The first plant with a manufacturing capacity of 2,50,000 vehicles per annum is expected to be commissioned within the year 2025, subject to administrative approvals. In the first phase, the investment would be over Rs 11,000 crore. The company also states that the site will have space for capacity expansion to include more manufacturing plants in the future.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki has two manufacturing facilities in Haryana which include Gurugram and Manesar, plus one manufacturing complex in Gujarat which is wholly owned by its parent company Suzuki Corporation.
The facility in Gurugram has three manufacturing plants that produce the Alto 800, WagonR, Ertiga, XL6, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, Ignis, and Eeco. The facility also began assembling the Jimny in January 2021 but solely for the export markets. The Manesar unit inaugurated in February 2007 produces the Alto, Swift, Ciaz, Baleno, and Celerio.
The company announced a 5.65 percent sales decline in total sales at 1,50,661 units in April against 1,59,691 units the same month a year ago. The company's statement said that the domestic sales stood at 1,32,248 units, down 7.16 percent from 1,42,454 in April 2021.
