Anand Mahindra shares images of Thar-based Military ATV: Gets stunning mods
Anand Mahindra has shared images of a new all-terrain vehicle (ATV) developed by Mahindra Group for defence and security forces. As seen in the images, the vehicle appears to be a heavily modified, mission-ready machine based on the Mahindra Thar Roxx platform. While technical specifications remain under wraps, the vehicle clearly looks to prioritise functionality and battlefield readiness. Here’s everything you need to know.
As seen in the images, the ATV features a stripped-down design with a clear focus on purpose. Gone are the doors and roof, replaced by a full tubular roll cage that extends across the cabin and rear section. The overall layout is open and rugged. It rides on chunky off-road tyres with steel wheels, while the stance appears taller and more aggressive, suggesting upgrades to suspension and ground clearance for extreme terrain use.
Up front, the vehicle gets a heavy-duty bumper equipped with a winch and recovery hooks, along with multiple mounting points on the bonnet. The rear has been completely reworked into a skeletal frame, featuring modular storage spaces, rear door-mounted jerry cans and what looks like provisions for carrying additional equipment. Besides, it also gets elements like side step guards, exposed hinges and tow hooks. Inside, the cabin is minimal, with basic seating and no visible comfort features, indicating its role as a mission-focused machine.
The ATV is also said to be airdrop-ready, indicating that it could be deployed in airborne operations.
While Mahindra has not revealed engine details, the platform could be derived from the Thar Roxx’s existing powertrains, including a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 172 hp and 370 Nm, or a 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit delivering 174 hp and 380 Nm. For defence use, the engine might have been tuned differently, paired with a standard four-wheel-drive system.
Besides this new ATV, Mahindra&Mahindra also supplies a range of specialised vehicles such as the Armado ALSV, Marksman while platforms like the Scorpio continue to serve in various roles with the Indian armed forces. Calling it a reflection of Mahindra’s core philosophy, he said the vehicle represents resilience, adaptability and the ability to go anywhere.
