Turbo-petrol engines are increasingly being offered in affordable SUVs in India, with several compact and sub-compact models under Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) now featuring this option, delivering improved performance over naturally aspirated units. These engines provide stronger low-end torque for easier city driving and better acceleration for highway overtakes. The shift reflects changing buyer preferences, with demand growing for more responsive performance without a significant increase in cost.
Manufacturers are also making turbo-petrol variants available in lower and mid trims, improving accessibility. As a result, the segment now focuses on a mix of performance, features and everyday usability. Tata Nexon
First SUV on the list is Tata Nexon turbo petrol priced from Rs 7.31 lakh (ex-showroom), Smart MT variant.
