Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) recently revealed some official design renderings of the new-gen Verna, confirming that a launch will take place on March 21. The company has also started accepting bookings for the updated sedan ahead of its debut. That said, we already know that the 2023 Hyundai Verna will retain its rivalry with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, as well as the Honda City - which is also set to be updated next month.
Ahead of its highly-anticipated launch, here are top 5 reasons we believe that the upcoming new Hyundai Verna could go on to become the top-selling mid-size sedan -
1. Polarising designWhile the production version of the new-gen Hyundai
Verna is yet to break cover, the renders give us a great idea of how the updated sedan will look like in flesh. The styling will be based on Hyundai's latest Sensuous Sportiness design language, lending it a split-headlamp setup up front, with a large radiator grille dominating the face. A full-width LED DRL strip will divide the bonnet and the front bumper, while the Hyundai emblem will be placed on the former.
Moving to the sides, the new Verna features strong character lines, especially on the rear doors. The sedan features a sloping roofline, flaunts swanky-looking diamond-cut alloy wheels, and also gets sharp LED tail lights. While the rear-end design is yet to be revealed, we expect the tail lights to be joined together with an LED bar running across the width of the boot-lid. Moreover, the new-gen Verna will likely be larger than its predecessor.
2. Most powerful engine in segmentThe new Verna will be offered with two petrol engine options, including the current 1.5-litre NA petrol motor that puts out 115 PS and 144 Nm, as well as a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that will likely produce around 160 PS of maximum power and 253 Nm of peak torque. The new turbocharged petrol engine will replace the 1.0-litre three-pot unit (120 PS/172 Nm) that is currently on offer with the sedan. Unlike the current-gen model, no diesel engine will be offered with the sedan.
This will make it the most powerful sedan in its segment. That said, the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor will also likely be carried over to the Creta, Kia Seltos and Carens. Transmission options will include a 6-speed MT, as well as an optional 7-speed DCT.

3. Extensive feature listHyundai cars are known to be some of the most feature-rich cars in their respective segments, and the new-gen Verna will be no different. No details are available as of yet, but we expect it to boast a large touchscreen infotainment system - possibly the largest in the segment, connected-car tech, a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, electrically adjustable driver's seat, a 360-degree camera, up to 6 airbags, and much more.
4. ADAS techThe 2023 Hyundai Verna is expected to come equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keep Assist and more. As of now, the Honda City (e:HEV) is the only mid-size sedan in the segment to be offered with ADAS tech, but it will soon be joined by the new Verna.
5. Brand valueThere's no denying the fact that the new-gen Verna will enjoy the brand value of Hyundai as well as its successors. The Hyundai Verna has been a successful nameplate in the Indian market, going neck and neck against other best-selling sedans in the segment. With sedans slowly regaining traction in the Rs 10 - 20 lakh space, we believe the Verna will pack what it takes to be the best-selling car in its segment.
