2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door revealed: Electric beast gets fake V8 roar!
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. Despite ditching the traditional V8 engine, the new electric performance sedan still tries to hold on to AMG’s signature character with a simulated V8 soundtrack. Let’s take a look at the key details.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is based on the brand’s dedicated AMG.EA electric platform and features a new triple-motor setup. The car uses three compact axial-flux motors: two mounted on the rear axle and one at the front. In the flagship GT 63 4MATIC+ version, the setup produces a massive 1,169 hp, while the GT 55 4MATIC+ delivers 816 hp.
Mercedes-AMG claims the GT 63 can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 2.1 seconds and hit 200 kmph in 6.4 seconds. Top speed stands at 300 kmph with the optional Driver’s Package.
The electric AMG coupe comes equipped with a large 106 kWh battery pack. Mercedes claims the battery supports up to 600 kW DC fast charging, allowing the car to charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 11 minutes. The company also says the system can add nearly 460 km of range in just 10 minutes of charging. Depending on the variant, the claimed WLTP range goes up to 700 km.
Interestingly, Mercedes-AMG has focused heavily on delivering an emotional driving experience despite the absence of a combustion engine. The GT 4-Door Coupe features a simulated V8 soundtrack reportedly created using over 1,600 sound samples. It also gets virtual gearshift effects controlled through steering-wheel paddles to mimic the feel of a traditional AMG performance car.
In terms of design, it gets AMG-specific styling elements including an illuminated grille, sharp LED headlamps with star-shaped DRLs. At the rear, the coupe features triple round LED tail-lamps on either side, an active rear spoiler and a large diffuser.
Inside the cabin, the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe gets a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster along with dual 14-inch screens integrated into a large glass panel. AMG-specific graphics and performance displays are also included.
The centre console houses three physical rotary controls as part of AMG’s new ‘Race Engineer’ system. The electric coupe also gets multiple drive modes, including a ForceSport+ mode, along with sporty seats, ambient lighting and a flat-bottom steering wheel with integrated controls.
