It isn't a surprise that the Royal Enfield 650 twin engine would spawn more iterations other than the existing Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, and now the Super Meteor 650. There had been talks of a larger twin Himalayan but the 650cc parallel twin engine and platform is heavy, something demonstrated clearly in the Super Meteor 650's 241 kg.
So, for some time there the idea of a Himalayan powered by this engine seemed to have been dropped, especially since the Himalayan 450 came into the picture.
But now, the web is full of reports confirming that the Himalayan 650 is indeed incoming. Would it carry the same name? That's something time will tell.
For now, the 648cc parallel twin has been the most praise-worthy engine in Royal Enfield's lineup, delivering 47 hp ad 52 Nm of torque. However, its application in a motorcycle that's meant to off-road has been tricky, owing to the weight and size.
Or perhaps, the Himalayan 450 could be more akin to off-road enthusiasts and the 650 Himalayan for other purposes like touring. And in that case, the 650 Himalayan would present serious competition to the likes of Kawasaki Versys 650 and Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT, even if it carries a premium price tag in comparison to other Royal Enfield motorcycles.

But if such a motorcycle is soon coming, it will be quite a wait before the 650 Himalayan makes an appearance and an unveiling can be expected no sooner than the end of 2024 or 2025. Until then, Royal Enfield has an all-new engine to introduce with the Himalayan 450, which is expected to launch sometime in early 2023.
Considering it's a new engine, it will most likely spawn other forms beyond the adventure tourer, perhaps a roadster called Hunter 450 and more. Royal Enfield's entry in the 450cc segment and the fact that CS Santosh is now with Enfield, the brand foray into the Dakar Rally also appears imminent. There are some very exciting times ahead for Royal Enfield and its fans indeed!
