How to avoid airbag injury during crash: Life-saving tips and suggestions
Airbags play a crucial role in enhancing vehicle safety by providing an additional layer of protection during accidents. However, improper positioning or lack of awareness can lead to airbag-related injuries. Here are some tips to help you avoid airbag injuries and ensure a safer driving experience.
Proper seating position
Ensure that you maintain a proper seating position with at least 10 inches between your chest and the steering wheel. This allows the airbag to deploy effectively without causing unnecessary impact injuries.
Hands-on driving
Keep your hands on the steering wheel at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions. Avoid placing your hands or arms across the center of the steering wheel, as this could result in injuries when the airbag deploys.
Seatbelt usage
Always wear your seatbelt properly. The seatbelt and airbag work in conjunction to provide protection. If you have child passengers, ensure they are seated in the back and use age-appropriate car seats. Children under 13 years old are safer in the back seat to avoid the forceful impact of deploying airbags.
Maintain a safe distance
Sit at a safe distance from the airbag cover. This minimizes the impact of the deploying airbag and reduces the risk of facial or upper body injuries.
No objects on the dashboard
Avoid placing heavy or hard objects on the dashboard. In a collision, these items can become projectiles when the airbag deploys, causing additional harm.
Airbag warning lights
Pay attention to the airbag warning lights on your dashboard. If the light is illuminated, it indicates a potential issue with the airbag system, and prompt inspection by a professional is crucial.
