A time ago Lord Kartikeya fought a war with a king named Surapadman. Surapadman was very mean to the Gods. It was hard to kill him because he had special powers. When Lord Kartikeyas spear hit Surapadman he turned into a mango tree. Then the tree split into two parts. One part became a peacock. The other part became a rooster. Lord Kartikeya is associated with the peacock. This story shows that the bad king was sorry for what he did and he asked Lord Kartikeya for forgiveness.
