RANCHI/DHANBAD: Jharkhand Vikas Morcha Prajatantrik that faced a huge political turmoil after refusing BJP’s offer for merger proved its mettle in the election bagging eight seats in the 81-member House.
Though party chief Babulal Marandi, the first chief minister of the state lost from both the seats he contested, his party emerged second a strong force among regional parties after JMM, which won 19 seats.

The party managed to prove the political pundits wrong along with the media speculations which had written off JVM(P)’s political history from Jharkhand. Formed in 2006, the party debuted in Jharkhand assembly election in 2009 clinching 11 seats. It suffered a setback ahead of the elections after it refused an offer of the BJP for merger.

Minister in outgoing Hemant Soren government, Congress’s KN Tripathy has been defeated by JVM (P)’s Alok Kumar Chaurasia on Daltongunj sear whereas Ajsu Party’s sitting MLA Uma Kant Rajak lost to first timer Amar Kumar Bauri on Chandankyari seat.
