Sarod player Amaan Ali Khan is all set to get married to sweetheart Avantika Haksar 'by the end of this year'.Amaan Ali Khan has been letting his sarod do too much of the talking lately, so much so that he quietly proposed to girlfriend Avantika Haksar on Valentine's Day, and the world came to know about it much later. "I met Avantika a year ago through a common friend at a gathering in Delhi. We've been seeing each other for a few months. I was attracted towards her and had made up my mind that I would marry her," he says.Avantika is a lawyer, who is Kashmiri but is based in Delhi. She is the granddaughter of Ajit Haksar, the first Indian chairman of ITC.

Amaan loves the fact that the girl he unabashedly calls "beautiful" comes from a non-musical family. "I like the fact that she is a great listener and not a performer," he laughs. "She comes from a very cultured background and what I like best about her is her simplicity. She is a self-made person and is not at all materialistic." Amaan says he was "so sure about her" that he wanted to "go the extra mile". And on February 14, he did just that. "We went to a restaurant in Delhi where I had never been before and had a lovely dinner together," he says. "Later, I decided to take her home and give her a surprise. I went down on one knee, took her hand and asked her whether she would marry me. Immediately, she smiled and said, 'Yes'. I also gifted her a promise band that signified our love for each other."They haven't decided on a date yet, but Amaan says both families are very happy at the match. "We plan to have a proper engagement ceremony very soon and by the end of this year or the beginning of the next, we will get married."The one thing Amaan says Avantika wants to change about him is his mood swings. But she can obviously deal with them, because Amaan was so smitten with her that he "chased her" for some time before they began seeing each other.
