The BJP retained power in Gujarat for sixth consecutive term, with trends from 182 seats giving it a win in 99 while the Congress followed with 79. Net neutrality

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) defended the net neutrality and ordered the regulators not to block, degrade, slow down or grant preferential speed on basis of content consumed by the user. The debate of net neutrality had sparked off about a couple of years back when Facebook launched Free basics in December 2015. The term effectively means the internet service provider enables users to access online content of their choice without any differential speed.

The company has termed its sharpest display ever (or so far) on iPhone as SuperRetina.

Neutron star fusion

More than 3,600 scientists from 953 institutions collaborated to record both gravitational waves and light coming from the same cosmic event. The advanced LIGO and Virgo observations on earth detected gravitational ripples on August 17. The event has been heralded as what scientists are calling the age of multimessenger astronomy, because now scientists can learn of distant events via two messengers: light, and gravitational waves.
