WASHINGTON: Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has asserted that Islamabad is determined to not only fight but also defeat terrorism in all its forms.
"We are determined to defeat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," Qureshi told reporters in a joint media interaction with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the Foggy Bottom, headquarters of the State Department.
Emerging out of the meeting along with Clinton, after the delegations of two countries had an extensive discussion, Qureshi said Pakistan is willing to work with the American administration to fight extremism and terrorism.
"We had an excellent meeting. There's a convergence between us, there's a willingness to work together, and I see a lot of hope in the new administration, the new leadership," Qureshi said.
Earlier, Qureshi defended the peace agreement with militants in Swat valley describing it "a local solution to a local problem" and assured that it would not affect Islamabad's commitment to get rid of violent extremism afflicting the region.
"The logic behind this agreement is a local solution to a local problem, which is quick dispensation of justice. It is not any appeasement towards militants," Qureshi said.
