Speculation is swirling that the American pop star and former Canadian Prime Minister shared a romantic moment on her yacht, but some insiders now claim the images may not have been as spontaneous as they seemed — perhaps a little too good to be true.

According to reports, friends close to Trudeau believe the photos showing him kissing Perry aboard her luxury yacht were “strategically choreographed.”

One insider believed this was no coincidence and reportedly told ShuterScoop, “Come on, it’s too perfect. A tourist with a telephoto lens just happens to drift by off Santa Barbara at sunset? Please.”

The images, published last week, show a 40-year-old Katy Perry with a 53-year-old Justin Trudeau, hugging and kissing under the sun.

However, Trudeau’s inner circle suspects that the singer had a hand in framing the scene. “Katy understands image better than anyone,” another source said. “That yacht was her stage. She knew what she was doing.”

Friends of the former prime minister believe Trudeau thought the moment was private and did not expect it to become global news. “Justin thought it was private,” one insider said. “He’s not into performative romance.” The reports suggest that the alleged setup has frustrated Trudeau’s close friends, who view the photos’ timing and visibility as deliberate and forced.

A Hollywood publicist said something completely different. They believe Perry’s instincts may have shaped how the photos appeared without faking the romance. “Katy doesn’t fake love — she frames it,” the publicist told ShuterScoop. “She knows how to make a moment work. Perry and Trudeau’s connection had been quietly developing for months before the yacht photos went public. A source told People that Trudeau had been “pursuing” Perry since their first date in July and even flew all the way to California to meet the singer. “When she first hung out with Justin, she wasn’t looking to date, but they stayed in touch,” the source said. “They have many shared interests and a lot to talk about.”

The unusual pair first sparked dating rumours when they were seen having dinner together at Le Violon in Montreal. Trudeau split from his wife, Sophie Grégoire, in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage, and they have three children. Perry has a daughter with actor Orlando Bloom and was previously married to comedian Russell Brand.
