NEW DELHI: The Vancouver Canucks bounced back from a loss by defeating the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 on Sunday. Conor Garland, Dakota Joshua, and Brock Boeser each contributed with a goal and an assist. Ilya Mikheyev and Phillip Di Giuseppe also found the back of the net for the Canucks, and Casey DeSmith made 30 saves. The victory improved Vancouver's record to 11-3-1.
In the second period, the Canucks took control of the game.
Conor Garland opened the scoring at 6:15, tipping in a centering pass from J.T. Miller. Ilya Mikheyev extended the lead at 9:17 with a well-placed shot past Montreal's goaltender, Jake Allen. Dakota Joshua added another goal with two minutes left in the period, scoring off a rebound after multiple shots from Garland.
Montreal's Christian Dvorak had a goal disallowed after a coach's challenge ruled the play offside.
Mike Matheson and Arber Xhekaj scored for the Canadiens, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Canucks' offensive effort.
Filip Hronek had an assist, marking his double-digit points streak, and Elias Pettersson, the NHL points leader, was held off the scoresheet, ending his eight-game streak.
The Canucks will host the New York Islanders on Wednesday night, while the Canadiens will host the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.
