US senators hope to meet with Xi during China trip next week

WASHINGTON: A group of US senators, including Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, plans to visit China next week and hope to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, a spokesperson for Republican Senator Mike Crapo confirmed on Monday.

Schumer's office confirmed last month he was planning a trip to China, South Korea and Japan but did not immediately comment on Monday. Crapo is the lead Republican on the planned trip and his office confirmed details of the planned trip reported earlier on Monday by Bloomberg News.
