WASHINGTON: The US has praised Pakistan for its "sustained support" on counter terrorism matters and pledged more assistance to Islamabad in areas of border security, counter-terrorism and in other areas.

WASHINGTON: The US has praised Pakistan for its "sustained support" on counter terrorism matters and pledged more assistance to Islamabad in areas of border security, counter-terrorism and in other areas.
Citing the arrests of numerous suspected al-Qaeda operatives including Khalid Mohammad Shaikh, the US representatives of the Departments of FBI and Drugs Enforcement Directorate lauded Islamabad and offered expanded assistance to it in areas of counter-terrorism and border security," a press release issued at the end of the second annual Joint Working Group on Counter-terrorism and Law Enforcement said here on Tuesday.

Potential areas of regional cooperation, particularly with Afghanistan were also discussed during the two-day meeting held over the weekend, the release said.
The US side included Ambassador J.Cofer Black, Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Paul Simons, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and Bruce Swarts, US Department of Justice Deputy Assistant Attorney General.
The Pakistani side was led by Tasneem Noorani, Secretary within Pakistan''s ministry of interior.
