US President-elect Donald Trump broadens search for treasury secretary; adds two more candidates, says reports

US President-elect Donald Trump is broadening his search for a Treasury secretary, adding former federal reserve governor Kevin Warsh and Apollo global management CEO Marc Rowan to his list of potential candidates, as reported by the New York Times on Sunday.

This development comes as Trump reportedly reconsiders earlier frontrunners, Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, and investor Scott Bessent. The President-elect is expected to meet with potential candidates at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida this week.

Warsh, a former investment banker, served on the Federal Reserve Board from 2006 to 2011. Rowan co-founded investment firm Apollo Global Management and assumed the role of CEO in 2021.

Both Lutnick and Bessent have close ties to Trump. Lutnick co-chaired Trump's transition team and has been a vocal supporter of his economic policies. Bessent, a longtime hedge fund investor, served as a key economic advisor to Trump during his campaign.

Public endorsements for Lutnick from figures like Elon Musk and Robert F Kennedy Jr over the weekend brought the competition for the Treasury secretary position into the spotlight.

Trump's transition team has not yet commented on the expanded search.
