Trump's team says Mark Zuckerberg has more 'a**-kissing' to do: 'It's a good start but not nearly enough'
President Donald Trump's team said what Mera CEO Mark Zuckerberg has started doing to cosy up with Trump is a good start but not enough, not nearly enough; they expect more "a**-kissing" from Zuckerberg. A senior Trump administration official told Rolling Stone that Zuckerberg needs to prove himself. "He can't just snap his fingers and make the past not happen."
Zuckerberg previously opposed Trump's crackdowns on immigration but this time he reportedly promised the administration that he wouldn't stand in the way of Trump's plan. Hus company announced that it would end its fact-checking program and donated $1 million to Donald Trump's inaugural fund. Meta is also ending its diversity, equity and inclusion program.
The members of the Trump team don't quite buy Zuckerberg's right-wing conversion as entirely genuine and think that it is at least partly motivated by self-interest. They have even spoken to Trump about Zuckerberg's desperate attempts to enter Trump's inner orbit. "The Meta CEO has a long road to travel before earning the full confidence of the Trump White House, given that the Republican president and some of his top advisers have long fumed over Zuckerberg’s track record on immigration politics, his company’s past efforts to fact check right-wing disinformation, and Big Tech’s displays of cultural liberalism," the Rolling Stone report said.
Trump too is not fully convinced as in a coffee-table book published two months before the election he wrote that Zuckerberg had steered Facebook against him.
“We are watching him closely, and if he does anything illegal this time he will spend the rest of his life in prison — as will others who cheat in the 2024 Presidential Election," Trump wrote.
An official of the current Trump administration said they will be keeping an eye on how Zuckerberg follows through in the coming months and years on "items such as steer Silicon Valley toward clampdowns on diversity programs and away from pro-immigration politicos".
Is Zuckerberg's right-wing conversion genuine?
