Trump vs Musk: Russia's former President Dmitry Medvedev offers to broker 'peace deal'; Tesla CEO responds
Amid escalating tensions between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev offered to facilitate the conclusion of a peace deal between them. And Tesla CEO's response was just hilarious, literally.
In a post on X, Medvedev said, "We are ready to facilitate the conclusion of a peace deal between D and E for a reasonable fee and to accept Starlink shares as payment. Don't fight, guys."
In response to the tweet, Elon Musk replied with laughing emoji.
This came a day after Musk was offered political asylum in Russia by lawmaker Dmitry Novikov as Moscow's politicians seek to capitalize on the Trump tensions with provocative remarks.
Dmitry Novikov, who serves as first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, shared his thoughts with the Russian state news agency Tass.
"I think that Musk has a completely different game, [so] he will not need any political asylum, although if he did, Russia, of course, could provide it," Novikov said, in remarks translated from Russian.
The political rift became public earlier this week when Musk slammed one of Trump’s most touted legislative efforts, referred to by the president as his “big, beautiful bill”, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
The remark surprised Republican leaders and got a rare serious reaction from President Trump.“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” Trump said from the Oval Office. He didn’t stop there. Taking direct aim at Musk’s businesses, the president said: “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts.”
Musk, in return, accused Trump of “ingratitude” and escalated the standoff by reposting claims, without evidence, suggesting Trump’s name appeared in government documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein.
While South Africa born businessman Musk’s talk of a new party has sparked a wave of enthusiasm online, he cannot run for president himself due to the constitutional requirement that the office be held only by natural-born US citizens.
