‘Trained warrior’ and ‘domestic terrorist’: How MAGA figures and Fox News are demonizing the Minneapolis shooting victim
On January 7, 2026, Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis mother of three, was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer during an immigration raid in the city. The encounter unfolded within seconds and has since become the subject of an active investigation. At a press conference, Homeland Security Secretary (DHS) Kristi Noem alleged that the woman was was "stalking and impeding" agents all day.
She also said, that Renee was instructed by the ICE agents to get out of her car and stop "obstructing" law enforcement but she did not comply.

Video footage of the incident shows the ICE officer standing after Good was shot, reholstering his weapon, and later driving away. Good, meanwhile, lay dying at the scene. Despite this, the circumstances of the shooting were almost immediately framed by the Trump administration as an act of self-defense. Kristi went so far ahead as calling the incident an act of 'domestic terrorism'.
President Donald Trump was among the first to publicly comment on the killing. In a social media post, he described Good as “a professional agitator” who had “violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense.”
“Based on the attached clip,” Trump continued, “it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital.”
The claim that an ICE officer was critically injured has been widely challenged. Anyone who has watched the video of Good’s death can see that the officer remained standing after the shooting. There is no publicly available footage showing an officer being run over.
Vice President JD Vance called the incident an attack on America itself. In a press briefing in The White House he said, 'This was an attack on federal law enforcement, this was an attack on law and order. And this was an attack on American people."
The Post wrote: “Renee Nicole Good, the mom who was killed by a federal agent after veering her car toward him, was an anti-ICE ‘warrior’ and was part of a group of activists who worked to ‘document and resist’ the federal immigration crackdown in Minnesota, The Post can reveal.”
Fox News echoed this language, using it to suggest intent and militancy without new evidence.
“Good, who moved to the city last year, linked up with the anti-ICE activists through her 6-year-old son’s woke charter school, which boasts that it puts ‘social justice first’ and prioritizes ‘involving kids in political and social activism,’ multiple local sources said,” the paper wrote.
At a vigil held where Good was killed, the Post quoted a fellow parent, writing: “She was a warrior. She died doing what was right,” a mother named Leesa, whose child attends the same school, told The Post.
The article framed Good’s neighborhood as ideological, repeatedly referring to it as a “lefty enclave,” and describing it as an area where homes display LGBTQ+ flags and George Floyd signs.
The Post claimed that Good sent her son to Southside Family Charter School, a K–5 school founded in 1972 that has been “unabashedly dedicated to social justice education,” citing co-founder Susie Oppenheim. It further stated that Good became involved with “ICE Watch,” described as “a loose coalition of activists dedicated to disrupting ICE raids in the sanctuary city.”
“From my understanding, she was involved in social justice … we are a tight-knit community and a lot of parents are [activists],” former Southside gym teacher Rashad Rich told The Post.
Former neighbors described her as warm and ordinary. A former neighbor in Kansas called Good and her family “lovely,” CNN affiliates KCTV and KMBC reported.
“She is a neighbor who, you know, is not a terrorist. Not an extremist,” Joan Rose told KMBC. “That was just a mom who loved her kids, loved her spouse.”
On social media, Good described herself as a “poet and writer and wife and mom,” according to the AP. She recently posted that she was “experiencing Minneapolis,” adding a pride flag emoji on Instagram.
A Pinterest account bearing her name shows photos of Good smiling while holding a young child, along with saved posts about tattoos, hairstyles, and home décor.
Good was also a devoted Christian earlier in life. Her ex-husband told the AP that she took part in youth mission trips to Northern Ireland, loved to sing, participated in a high school chorus, and studied vocal performance in college.
There is hate against the woman, who is being dubbed an 'activist', 'trained warrior' and 'anti-ICE warrior'. A user named Victoria (@UGAGirl7280), who identifies as a “Proud Constitutional Conservative,” wrote: “#ReneeGood was a domestic terrorist that tried to kill an ICE officer with her vehicle. That was her choice! If you try to kill a federal agent, you’ll be shot! Here’s Renee with kids mocking out Charlie Kirk’s death. Looks like God works in mysterious ways. R.I. HELL b*tch!”
Another said, "“Yesterday, Renee Good made a very bad choice. Her life is over because her radical ideology took over any sense of rational thinking. Good was reportedly a poet and mother who grew up in Colorado Springs. She was married to a guy who died in 2023. She had apparently turned gay, living in Minneapolis with her partner, who was reportedly on the scene filming her intentionally blocking ICE. This unhinged liberal white woman has nobody to blame but herself. She gave up her life protecting dangerous gang members, illegal aliens, and thieving Somalians.”

Trump sets the narrative
“Based on the attached clip,” Trump continued, “it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital.”

Fox News amplifies the framing
Fox News took the cue. They aired a segment portraying Good as a dangerous activist, referring to her as a “trained warrior” aligned with anti-ICE groups. The segment relied heavily on a New York Post article that focused on Good’s political associations rather than the events of her death.

Selective quotes and loaded descriptions
The New York Post article repeatedly emphasized Good’s political environment, claiming she became involved in activism through her child’s school.“Good, who moved to the city last year, linked up with the anti-ICE activists through her 6-year-old son’s woke charter school, which boasts that it puts ‘social justice first’ and prioritizes ‘involving kids in political and social activism,’ multiple local sources said,” the paper wrote.

What was left out
But what they left in their reporting or what people conveniently left to emphasize were facts. Good was a mother of three. She had two older children, ages 15 and 12, from her first marriage, according to the AP. The father of her 6-year-old child died in 2023, the Star Tribune reported. “There’s nobody else in his life,” the child’s grandfather told the newspaper.Former neighbors described her as warm and ordinary. A former neighbor in Kansas called Good and her family “lovely,” CNN affiliates KCTV and KMBC reported.

Online abuse escalates
But the fact that a mother of three was killed in broad daylight, has been muted by the noise that has since taken over: justifying the act of ICE.There is hate against the woman, who is being dubbed an 'activist', 'trained warrior' and 'anti-ICE warrior'.
