NEW DELHI: A high-speed car crash at a checkpoint on the Rainbow Bridge connecting the US and Canada, was captured by a CCTV installed nearby. Moments later the vehicle caught fire and turned into a massive fireball, reports The New York Post.
One CCTV camera captured the car going in the air, seemingly colliding with what sources identified as a barrier near the American checkpoint on the Niagara Falls, NY, and Ontario, Canada bridge.
Shortly after, a second video, likely filmed from a nearby US Customs and Border Protection building, revealed a fiery explosion. The impact resulted in debris from a nearby security booth going in the air, while thick plumes of smoke engulfed the area.
In a press conference, Kathy Hochul, New York Governor told that there was "no indication of a terrorist attack." initially some reports indicated that this was a terror attack. According to The Mirror, Hochul said, "Based on what we know at this moment....there is no sign of terrorist activity in this crash."
Federal Bureau of Investigation, on the incident stated, "FBI Buffalo has concluded its investigation at the scene of the Rainbow Bridge incident. A search of the scene revealed no explosive materials and no terrorism nexus was identified. The matter has been turned over to the Niagara Falls Police Department as a traffic investigation. The FBI thanks our local, state and federal law enforcement partners for their assistance, and we remain committed in our mission to keeping the public safe."
Canada's PM Justin Trudeau on this incident said, “This is obviously a very serious situation in Niagara Falls. We are taking this extraordinarily seriously."
