'Sociopath': Elon Musk's biographer slams his Auschwitz visit
The tech billionaire's visit to Auschwitz drew sharp criticism, with his biographer Seth Abramson calling him a "sociopath" after others dismissed the visit as merely a publicity exercise.
"This is absolutely chilling," he posted on Thursday. "He truly is a sociopath."
The billionaire has encountered fresh accusations of antisemitism following a controversial gesture during his speech after the new president's inauguration, which some observers linking it to a Nazi salute.
While Musk's Auschwitz visit has been cited to counter these allegations, he has rejected the Nazi comparisons as "pure propaganda", though he subsequently posted Nazi-related jokes on his X platform.
The situation intensified when Julie Gray, partner of 89-year-old Holocaust survivor Gidon Lev, who was the honoured guest during Musk's highly publicised visit, shared her candid observations on Facebook.
"I chatted with Elon Musk. I spent hours with him and walked with him through Auschwitz. I stood with him, looking at the nauseating heaps of hair, luggage, and shoes flooded with violet light meant to preserve it," Gray wrote.
"Is Musk an antisemite? People, actually, it's worse—he doesn't care whatsoever… He was unmoved by the experience," she added.
"Elon did not care. He was about his press junket and his bodyguards. I was ten feet from him as he posed for the cameras of his entourage. He was utterly detached. He cared about how he looked. When he placed a wreath at Auschwitz and Gidon was overlooked, he walked away with the cameras whirring. This is Elon Musk. A sociopath, if ever there was one. To deduce, from this visit, that he is a friend of the Jews is desperately naive," she wrote.
The tech entrepreneur's Auschwitz visit followed allegations of antisemitism against him and his platform in late 2023.
