Trump’s meeting with Zelenskyy and European leaders

The clearest indication yet of a possible route to peace negotiations between war-torn Ukraine and sanctioned Russia came at US President Donald Trump's White House meeting with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy and leading European leaders. There were more smiles and kinder remarks on Kyiv's security promises this time. However, there were still challenging questions throughout the conversation despite the civility.

Trump expresses assurances of security

Trump's willingness to support European-led security guarantees for Ukraine, despite his opposition to joining NATO, was a major theme. “European countries want to give protection and they feel very strongly about it and we’ll help them out with that,” Trump said. Zelenskyy welcomed the message, calling it “such (a) strong signal.”

A lighthearted response to Zelenskyy

Trump and Vance chastised Zelenskyy for his ingratitude in February and even made fun of his outfit, which contrasted sharply with his most recent appearance in the Oval Office. When the president of Ukraine showed up this time wearing a black suit and shirt, right-wing reporter Brian Glenn remarked, "You look fabulous." Trump jumped right in, saying, "I said the same thing!" "You are in the same suit," Zelenskyy joked to Glenn in a humorous deflection. I changed. You didn't.

Europeans give accolades but warn of a difficult path ahead

In an attempt to demonstrate solidarity, European leaders praised Trump while indicating that difficult negotiations were still to come. On Fox News, NATO leader Mark Rutte referred to Trump as "dear Donald" and then described him as "amazing." Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, issued a warning, stating that while "the path is open now," the next steps were "more complicated."

Putin's influence over the negotiations

Trump's comments still heavily referenced Putin, even as European leaders made their case. Several times, the US president stated that the Russian leader "wants it to end" and promised to keep him informed of developments. Trump also had a 40-minute phone conversation with Putin just after the meeting.

Trump suggests a speedy resolution

Trump played up but also moderated expectations when he said he could end the conflict "in a day" during his presidential campaign. He stated, "We'll know in a week or two whether we're going to solve this or if this terrible fighting is going to continue."

7/11

Arrangements for Putin and Zelenskyy to meet

Trump declared that Putin and Zelenskyy will meet in person before a trilateral summit that would include him. "Everyone is very happy about the possibility of PEACE for Russia/Ukraine," he posted on Truth Social. Although a location was not established, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov later claimed that Putin and Trump had spoken "in favor" of continuing direct conversations.

Trump's big revealation on the hot mic

Trump and Macron were seen on a hot mic before to the start of the official negotiations. "I think he wants to make a deal," he whispered of Putin in the East Room. "I think he wants to make a deal for me, you understand that? As crazy as it sounds.” The statement emphasized Trump's conviction that Putin sees him as an ideal peacemaker.

Leaders divided by the ceasefire dispute

The question of whether a ceasefire is a requirement for discussions sparked one of the biggest disagreements. "I don't know that it's necessary," Trump said, downplaying its importance. "I can't imagine that the next meeting would take place without a ceasefire," Merz said bluntly. While demands for de-escalation were echoed by Macron and others, he pushed for more pressure on Russia. Notably, Zelenskyy left the issue open and did not reiterate his previous calls for a ceasefire.

Zelenskyy begins a charm campaign

Zelenskyy launched a purposeful charm attack, keeping in mind his difficult previous visit. In a matter of minutes, he offered six “thank yous,” gave Trump with a letter from his wife to Melania Trump, while dressed in a formal suit With a warm response, Trump said, “I cannot believe it. I love it. Look at you.”

11/11

Security guarantees connected to arms deal

Zelenskyy disclosed that a significant arms deal was included in the security guarantees being discussed. According to the Financial Times, in exchange for US security support, Ukraine pledged to purchase $100 billion worth of European-financed US armaments. Trump vaguely said, "We'll give them good protection."

During the meeting with Zelensky and European leaders, DOLAND-often dubbed the "Joker" for his unpredictable antics, displayed his usual foolishness by interrupting the talks to call Putin mid-meeting, causing confusion and amusement. While the leaders pushed for unity on Ukraine, Trump's erratic behavior and impulsive moves overshadowed the serious agenda, turning the high-profile diplomacy into a chaotic spectacle.. LOL
