'Will never surrender': Donald Trump in fundraising email after gunshots fired in vicinity
Former US President Donald Trump said in a fundraising email Sunday that he is "safe and well" after shots were fired near him at the Trump International Golf Club in South Florida.
"There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!" Trump wrote in the mail.
"Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me," he added.
Trump was playing golf at the time when the incident took place. One of the member of the secret service agent noticed a rifle sticking out of from a fence and opened fire. The agent fired four to six shots before the suspect fled. The witness spot the suspected shooter and captured a photo of the suspect’s vehicle and license plate which ultimately helped law enforcement officials locate the vehicle driving north on I-95 in Martin County, one county to the north of Palm Beach.
Federal bureau of investigation (FBI) said that the attack appears to be an assassination attempt on Donald Trump at his Florida golf club Sunday, the second time in two months there’s been an apparent attempt on the former president’s life, CNN reported.
"The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach Florida and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump," FBI said in a statement.
As per the police the gunman was carrying an AK-47 and a GoPro with him and was reportedly 400-500 metres away from Trump.
Soon after the incident took place, Donald Trump’s campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles updated staff after shots were fired near the former president Sunday, telling them in an email that “safety is always our top priority.”
According to the White House, vice president Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden have both been informed about incident and are both "relieved to know" that Donald Trump is safe, reported CNN.
"The President and vice president have been briefed about the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was golfing. They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept regularly updated by their team," according to a statement from the White House.
Harris, sharing a post on social media, said that there is no place for violence in America.
"I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe," the US Vice President wrote on X.
"Violence has no place in America," she added.
