NEW DELHI: Aroldis Chapman, the free-agent relief pitcher and seven-time All-Star, has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to various reports on Monday. Chapman, who will turn 36 before the upcoming season, is set to join his sixth major league team, having recently secured his second World Series ring.

Last summer, Chapman was traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Texas Rangers, contributing to the Rangers' successful journey to win their first World Series. This move mirrors his 2016 trade when he went from the New York Yankees to the Chicago Cubs, helping the Cubs secure their coveted World Series title later that fall. In that particular series, Chapman experienced both the agony of blowing a save in Game 7 and the ecstasy of being credited as the winning pitcher.

During the 2023 season, Chapman made 61 appearances for the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers, recording six saves but also blowing five. His final stats included a 6-5 record and a 3.09 ERA. Chapman played a significant role in the Rangers' postseason success, contributing with six holds.

Over the course of his career, Aroldis Chapman has amassed a 50-40 record, a 2.53 ERA, 321 saves, and 43 blown saves in 728 relief appearances for several teams, including the Cincinnati Reds (2010-15), New York Yankees (2016, 2017-22), Chicago Cubs (2016), Kansas City Royals, and Texas Rangers.
