NEW DELHI: Patrick Kane made quite the return to Chicago, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Detroit Red Wings over the Blackhawks. Kane, who spent over 15 seasons with the Blackhawks before his trade to the New York Rangers in February 2023, received a warm welcome from the United Center crowd during a pregame ceremony honouring Hockey Hall of Famer Chris Chelios, whose No. 7 jersey was retired by the Blackhawks.

Despite the emotional atmosphere, Kane made his mark on the ice, extending his point streak to eight games with a goal and an assist. His heroics in overtime sealed the win for the Red Wings, who extended their winning streak to five games behind Kane's performance and solid goaltending from James Reimer, who made 33 saves.

Daniel Sprong opened the scoring for Detroit late in the first period, but MacKenzie Entwistle responded for Chicago early in the second period to tie the game. The Blackhawks took the lead with a power-play goal from Nick Foligno late in the second period, but Alex DeBrincat, another former Blackhawk, leveled the score for the Red Wings in the third period.

Then came Kane's moment of magic in overtime, as he capitalized on a breakaway to secure the victory for Detroit. Despite the loss, Chicago earned a point for the second straight game behind solid goaltending from Petr Mrazek, who made 28 saves.

Overall, it was a memorable night for Kane and the Red Wings, as they celebrated his return to Chicago with a hard-fought victory on the ice.
