US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that he loved Sydney Sweeney's blue jeans ad upon discovering her Republican Party registration, amidst ongoing controversy surrounding her American Eagle advertisement.
The MAGA chief, when informed about the 27-year-old "Euphoria" actress's political affiliation, immediately changed his perspective on her contested denim campaign.
"Oh, now I love her ad," he stated to reporters before boarding Air Force One in Allentown, Pa. "You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That's one I wouldn't have known but I'm glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeny is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic."
According to public voter records reviewed by The Post, the "White Lotus" actress has been registered with the Republican Party of Florida in Monroe County since June 2024.
Sweeney’s party affiliation was first confirmed by Buzzfeed news on Saturday, after a post on X claiming she was “an actual registered member of the republican party” went viral.
The revelation emerged while Sweeney faces criticism from left-wing commentators who have likened the clothing retailer's advertisement to promoting controversial ideologies.
The advertisement's tagline reads: "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans." One promotional segment features Sweeney explaining genetic inheritance of traits, concluding with "my jeans are blue." Another advertisement shows her altering a billboard by replacing "genes" with "jeans."
The campaign initiated significant social media discourse regarding Western beauty standards and racial implications, leading American Eagle to defend their marketing strategy and the "Anyone But You" star.
White House officials, including Trump's communications director Steven Cheung, criticised the backlash as "cancel culture run amok." Vice President JD Vance commented on the "Ruthless" podcast, suggesting Democrats were overreacting to "a pretty girl" marketing jeans.
