The White House clarified on Monday that Elon Musk is not an employee of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and has no decision-making authority within the Trump administration. According to a court filing, Musk’s role is limited to serving as a senior adviser to the president, and he does not hold any formal authority to make government decisions.
The filing, signed by Joshua Fisher, director of the Office of Administration at the White House, states, “Like other senior White House advisors, Mr Musk has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself.”
Fisher’s statement came in response to a lawsuit brought against Musk by the State of New Mexico. The filing further specified that Musk is not an employee of the US DOGE Service or its Temporary Organization and is not the US DOGE Service Administrator.
Musk, CEO of Tesla, has been tasked with leading a significant overhaul of federal agencies, as part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to root out wasteful spending and reduce government inefficiencies.
