Musk reveals his reason for acquiring Twitter. It's got something to do with Trump

Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter (now X) in 2022 revealed his reasons for acquring the social media alleging he perceived as excessive censorship targeting conservative voices. He pointed to the suspension of a former US president Donald Trump, who Musk has been a vocal supporter of as an example of the platform's censorship.

Musk said that every media organisation a week before the Biden-Trump debate was "saying the same thing". He added after the debate "the legacy media pivoted to knifing Biden and anointing a successor."

Musk's frustration with this trend has cemented his belief in the necessity of a more balanced platform, saying, “the whole point of acquiring Twitter was to restore the voice of the people.”

He crticised the the legacy media's handling of political discourse, especially regarding censorship. “While the far-left activists that used to control Twitter obviously did extreme censorship of voices on the right, there has been no censorship of voices on the left,” he pointed out. Musk specifically highlighted the controversial suspension of a sitting president, calling it "insane".

"They suspended a sitting president. You know, Twitter suspended a sitting president, which is insane. And, but there's been no suspension or censorship or shadow banning or anything of anyone on the left," Musk said.


Musk’s political activities have been on the rise, particularly as he rallies support for Trump ahead of the upcoming election. Recently, at a rally in Pennsylvania, he announced plans to give away $1 million each day until the election to those who sign his online petition backing the U.S. Constitution. This initiative reflects Musk's strategy to galvanise public support for Trump, who has praised Musk as a potential head of a government efficiency commission should he regain the presidency.

At the Harrisburg event, Musk talked about the gravity of the election, suggesting that if Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris, were to win, it could signal the end of the United States as it is known. He stated, “If Harris wins, it will be the last election,” echoing sentiments that have resonated with many of his supporters.

With over $75 million invested, Musk is positioning himself as a key player in Trump's campaign, as he aims to mobilise voters in critical battleground states.
