Michelle dazzles in Mumbai boy's gown
Michelle Obama’s champagne-coloured dress with silver detailing and good old sparkling very-Indian churis has ensured celebrated designer, New-York based Naeem Khan, becomes a household name.
Married to jewellery designer Ranjana Khan, Naeem’s signature style of ethnic embroideries, dazzling colours and bold embellishments has earned him a niche in the fashion world.

Khan has dressed Hollywood A-list women, including Beyonce Knowles, Carrie Underwood, Katherine Heigl, Eva Longoria and even Queen Noor of Jordan.
Born on May 21, 1958, in Mumbai, Naeem cultivated his knowledge of textiles under the eyes of his designer grandfather and father who, his website says, designed for royalty and social notables.
Khan moved to the United States in 1976, where he worked for some time under Roy Halston Frowick, the legendary designer of the 1970s who Naeem regards as his mentor.
In 1981, Khan started the Riazee collection in New York. For 14 years Khan designed casual separates and cocktail dresses under the Riazee label, before launching Naeem Khan about 5 years ago.
The 51-year-old’s Spring 2010 collection is named Punk Raj. Most of his collection, which he showed in his Garment District studio, might look like dresses, said critics but are, in fact, separates which can be worn umpteen different ways. Fashionistas hail that as “Khan’s new frontier”.
An avid lover of art, Naeem Khan collects Andy Warhol and finds, among Indian artists, Jitish Kallat
‘fascinating’.
