US President Donald Trump held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Davos on Thursday. He said that the meeting went well and went on to share a message for his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
“The message to President Putin is that the war has to end," Trump said after the meeting concluded.
"We hope it will end because a lot of people are being killed. Last month, around 30,000 people were killed, mostly soldiers. It’s really a war that has to end,” he added.
The meeting lasted about an hour.
Despite a year-long effort by the Trump administration to end the conflict, no significant progress has been achieved, even as the US president repeatedly set deadlines. The push, however, was expected to continue.
Zelenskyy said last week that his representatives would work with US officials to finalize documents linked to a proposed peace settlement, focusing on postwar security guarantees and economic reconstruction.
