WASHINGTON: US Republican presidential nominee John McCain is not only making waves by gradually consolidating his position against Democratic rival Barack Obama in opinion polls, he is also making a major headway in YouTube hits.
The McCain campaign strategy of hammering away at Obama in funny videos comparing the Illinois Senator to celebrities has pushed the McCain YouTube channel to the sixth most watched sites this week.

According to a front page report in The Washington Times, McCain has beaten Obama's channel for seven straight days and 11 of the past 14 days.
This is a giant reversal, the media report says pointing out that Obama had been quadrupling McCain's YouTube views and beat him every day since February, citing TubeMogul, which tracks online video viewing.
"I want to know who he hired. They went from recycling their TV ads to like putting out these witty shorts," David Burch, marketing manager for TubeMogul has been cited in The Times report.
The McCain camp has repeatedly said that its ads were intended to inject some humor in the campaign, the "Celebrity" ad compared Obama to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, and "The One" Web ad mocked the adulation from Obama supporters and compares the Democrat to Moses as he parts the Red Sea.
Overall it is being pointed out Obama's YouTube channel still dominates, with 51 million all-time video views. Representative Ron Paul, Texas Republican, is second with 15.3 million views and McCain is third with 8.3 million views.
