In the 2020 election, Trump secured 56% of the vote in Kansas, compared to 42% for Democrat Joe Biden. In 2016, Trump claimed the state with 57% of the vote, while Hillary Clinton received 36%.

Kansas is traditionally a Republican state and has not supported a Democratic presidential nominee since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, marking 60 years and 15 election cycles since that occurrence.

The state has produced one US president, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who, though born in Denison, Texas, was raised in Abilene, Kansas. Eisenhower, who served as the 34th president from 1953 to 1961, is noted for his leadership as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II and for significant domestic initiatives during his administration.

In his victory speech, Trump thanked the supporters for electing him back and said this period would usher in a new era of national reconciliation.

"I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president, and your 45th president," he said. "America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate. We have taken back control of the Senate – wow that's good," Trump declared to his supporters in Florida.
