Reports from the New York Times, citing two informed sources, revealed that Harpo Productions received nearly $2.5 million, rather than the previously estimated $1 million for the September town hall featuring Harris. This amount represents a small portion of Harris' total campaign spending of $1.5 billion.

The television personality clarified that she received no personal compensation from the Democratic campaign, a statement corroborated by a former Harris campaign adviser who confirmed no payments were made for appearances or endorsements.

Through an Instagram post, Winfrey explained that the funds were allocated to cover production costs, "I was not paid a dime. For the live-streaming event in September, my production company Harpo was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, crew, producers and every other item necessary (including the benches and the chairs we sat on) to put on a live production. I did not take any personal fee."

She further emphasised, "However, the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story."

The Harris campaign, whilst setting records for rapid fundraising, accumulated substantial expenses totalling $1.5 billion over 15 weeks, leaving the Democratic Party with a $20 million deficit.

The substantial budget was primarily directed towards intensive advertising campaigns, necessitated by the compressed timeline following Harris' nomination as Biden's replacement. The campaign featured extensive grassroots outreach, pervasive social media presence, and celebrity endorsements including Beyonce and Lady Gaga.

Additional expenditures included approximately $9,000 at premium ice cream establishments, $15,000 for food delivery services, and $2.6 million for private aircraft travel during her October battleground states tour.
