Former President Barack Obama, alongside rock icon Bruce Springsteen and a host of other celebrities, rallied support for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Thursday. The event drew an impressive crowd of around 20,000 attendees, marking one of Harris's largest rallies to date.
Speaking at the rally Obama claimed that Trump "only cares about his ego, his money, his status." The former president alleged that just because Trump acts "goofy does not mean his presidency wouldn't be dangerous".
To support his argument, Obama cited the opinions of several high-ranking military officials who have worked closely with Trump. Obama quoted General John Kelly, Trump's former chief of staff, who had earlier told the Atlantic that "Trump told him he wanted his generals to be like Hitler's generals." Obama humorously advised against comparing oneself to Hitler in politics, "don't say you want to do anything like Hitler," he quipped.
Harris echoed this sentiment, drawing on her experience as a prosecutor to frame Trump as akin to “predators, fraudsters, and repeat offenders.” She encouraged Georgians to remember that it was their turn to hold Trump accountable. “In 12 days, it’s Donald Trump’s turn. It’s his turn,” she declared, highlighting the urgency of the election and the need for voters to make a decisive choice.
The rally, part of Harris's "When We Vote We Win" concert series, featured performances from Springsteen, who performed moving renditions of “The Promised Land” and “Land of Hope and Dreams.” He passionately declared that Harris is the candidate who truly respects the Constitution and has the vision to lead. “There is only one candidate in this election who holds those principles dear, Kamala Harris,” he said.
This event is part of a concerted effort by Harris's campaign to leverage celebrity endorsements to boost voter turnout, especially as polls indicate a tight race in Georgia, a state Biden surprisingly won in 2020.
