NEW DELHI: The New England Revolution have bolstered their defensive lineup with the signing of experienced defender Jonathan Mensah. The 33-year-old free agent, formerly of the Columbus Crew and the San Jose Earthquakes, joins the Revolution on a one-year contract, with an additional option for the 2025 season.
Mensah brings a wealth of Major League Soccer (MLS) experience, having played six seasons with the Columbus Crew from 2017 to 2022, followed by a stint with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2023.In his MLS career, Mensah has notched seven goals and three assists in 185 matches, with 176 of those as a starter.

The seasoned defender served as the captain for the Columbus Crew, leading them to victory in the 2020 MLS Cup and earning MLS Best XI honors in the same season. He also played a crucial role in the Crew's triumph in the 2021 Campeones Cup.
New England Revolution's Sporting Director Curt Onalfo expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, "Jonathan Mensah is an experienced defender with a long history of success in our league and at the international level, and someone who knows firsthand what it takes to win an MLS Cup." Onalfo emphasized that Mensah's addition strengthens the team's central defense and enhances the squad's depth as they navigate a busy schedule.

His reunion with head coach Caleb Porter, who previously led the Columbus Crew from 2019 to 2022, adds familiarity and a positive presence to the New England Revolution.
Porter expressed his confidence in Mensah, stating, "Jonathan is a person of the utmost character who embodies strong leadership qualities." He emphasized Mensah's professionalism and passion on the pitch, highlighting the defender's understanding of what it takes to secure a championship.
