The suspect was arrested a few hours after the incident and charged with a serious offense involving intimidation using a dangerous weapon, as confirmed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. However, court documents indicate that formal charges had yet to be filed against him as of Tuesday morning.

Police officials responded to reports of gunfire inside the mall at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the northeast section of the city.

“How many families were put at risk, and how hard this is for these families, how close it is to the holidays," Officer Tommy Thompson said.

Initially, no injuries were reported, but later, an individual believed to have been wounded in the incident sought medical attention at a hospital for injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The patient was reported to be in stable condition.

According to police, a “dispute” between individuals led to the incident, which occurred at one of the mall's entrances.

The shopping center has experienced multiple shooting incidents in recent years, including one in January 2023 outside the premises that resulted in the death of a teenager and the injury of an adult. Authorities later apprehended a suspect in that case.
