An Indiana mother shot and wounded Bruce Pierce, a convicted child molester, after finding him allegedly trying to rape her 12-year-old daughter inside a motel room on Saturday, according to court documents.
The mother walked in on Pierce, who was reportedly on top of her daughter as the preteen repeatedly said no. The mother then fired shots, leading to Pierce’s injury, the documents state. The incident occurred at the Baymont Inn.
According to the victim’s grandmother, Pierce had been communicating with the 12-year-old online and over the phone, attempting to persuade her to leave town with him.
On the day of the shooting, the victim and her sister woke their grandmother after their mother didn’t come home. They went to the motel and found the mother and Pierce in the lobby.
At one point, the victim was left alone with Pierce while the mother and sister took items to the car because the child was feeling unwell. Pierce allegedly pinned the girl’s arms and began ripping her clothes before the mother burst in.
The young victim escaped while the mother shot Pierce, who allegedly also held a gun in his hand.
The woman, along with her daughter, fled the spot and called police. According to officials, Pierce was taken to a hospital. However, he is not in custody yet.
According to a report from Fox59, he is facing charges of attempted rape, attempted child molestation, unlawful possession of a firearm and confinement.
Earlier in 2016, he pleaded guilty to past child molesting charges.
