‘Impinges on authority’: Trump moves SC on National Guard deployment in Chicago; move follows appeals court denial
The on Friday asked the Supreme Court to allow the deployment of in the Chicago area.
The emergency request followed a judge’s order blocking the deployment of Guard members from Illinois and Texas to assist immigration enforcement for at least two weeks. A federal appeals court refused to suspend the judge’s order.

The Supreme Court, which has a conservative majority, has repeatedly ruled in Trump’s favour in emergency appeals since he took office in January, often overturning lower court decisions and over the objections of the three liberal justices. The court has previously allowed Trump to ban transgender people from the military, recover billions in federal spending, take strong actions against immigrants, and remove presidentially appointed leaders from independent federal agencies.
In the case of the Guard deployment, US District Judge April Perry said there was no clear evidence of a “danger of rebellion” in Illinois during the administration’s immigration crackdown.
Trump’s top Supreme Court lawyer, Solicitor General D John Sauer, asked the justices to intervene immediately, saying Judge Perry’s order “impinges on the President’s authority and needlessly endangers federal personnel and property.”
Similar restrictions have been imposed elsewhere. A federal judge in Oregon temporarily blocked the deployment of National Guard troops there, while Guard units from several states continue to patrol Washington, DC, and Memphis, Tennessee.
In California, a judge ruled in September that the deployment was illegal. By then, only 300 of the thousands of troops sent remained, and the judge did not order their removal.

In a democratic federal steucture, it is the opposition which generally approaches the highest court for redressal of grievances against central government decisions. Here the roles are reversed. It is a strong statement on the flawed decision making by one man who is surrounded by a bunch of yes men and womenRead allPost comment
