'Has anyone encountered ICE in Minneapolis?’: H-1B workers voice anxiety on Reddit after Renee Good shot dead by federal agents
In the aftermath of a fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis that shook the city and ignited nationwide debate, anxiety has rippled far beyond protests — reaching into online forums and the minds of everyday residents, including H-1B visa holders.
That unease surfaced on Reddit, where a user asked a simple but telling question: “Has anyone encountered ICE in Minneapolis?” Within just 14 hours, the post drew more than 50 comments, reflecting both anxiety and curiosity about immigration enforcement on the ground.
In a post on Reddit, a user said, "I am on H1b (living in Minneapolis ) and I am curious if anyone here has encountered ICE outside an airport? Maybe at a traffic stop or somewhere else? If yes, how did it go? How did you react?"
One of the user tried to ease the situation and said, "I don’t think H1B guys will be targets. Since H1B is temporary and in and out are strictly documented."
Another user said, "Never have I encountered and I travel all the time for work across the country. Just last week I travelled to Canada and back Monday to Friday for work and nothing . Even my border crossing was easy. I do have global entry, so may have affected that. But no documents asked and only 1 standard question asked."
This post came after the woman was shot dead by a federal immigration agent in the US state of Minneapolis. She has been identified as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who had just moved to the city.
A US citizen, Good was originally from Colorado Springs.
