Elon Musk "fully" endorsed former President Trump following the assassination attempt, saying, "the last time we had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt." Musk also drew parallels to what he claimed were two assassination attempts on his own life within the last eight months.
“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk posted on X just 30 minutes after the former President was shot at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Responding to a an X user who voiced concerns and suggested Musk to "triple his security", Musk wrote, “Dangerous times ahead. Two people (separate occasions) have already tried to kill me in the past 8 months. They were arrested with guns about 20 mins drive from Tesla HQ in Texas.”
Previously, Musk had suggested that he might be targeted for assassination. In 2022, he accused reporters of sharing his real-time location, referring to it as his “assassination coordinates.” He also received threats from former Russian space agency chief Dmitry Rogozin, to which he responded, “If I die under mysterious circumstances, it's been nice knowin ya.”
Musk criticized the Secret Service for the attempt on Trump's life, suggesting they were either “extremely incompetent or deliberate.” He reposted a tweet questioning how a sniper with a full rifle kit managed to get so close to a presidential nominee.
In another response to a post from someone asking, “How the hell was such an obvious line of sight not secured,” Musk wrote: “Exactly.”
He called for the resignation of the head of the Secret Service and the leader of Trump's security detail.
The endorsement coincides with Elon Musk's donation to a super political action committee supporting Donald Trump's presidential campaign, marking a significant move by the world's richest individual to influence the US political scene.
Media reports indicate that Musk has contributed to America PAC, a relatively obscure group. This PAC is set to reveal its donor list on July 15. This action underscores the increasing political sway of Musk, who leads the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a net worth of $263.6 billion, and reflects his transition from a self-proclaimed political independent.
