During his first term, Trump appointed Walker as a co-chair of the White House’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.

Walker, one of Trump’s earliest endorsements for the 2022 elections, strongly opposed abortion, though he faced allegations of paying for two women to have abortions, claims he denied. He was also known for policy-related gaffes and occasionally puzzling remarks.

The United States established diplomatic ties with The Bahamas in 1973 after the country gained independence from the United Kingdom.

According to the US State Department, about 80% of the 7 million tourists visiting The Bahamas annually are Americans. The trade relationship between the two nations amounts to approximately $7.3 billion each year, with the US enjoying a $3.8 billion trade surplus.
