Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) engaged in a tense back-and-forth during the proceedings, reported Fox5 DC.

The House panel had met on Thursday to discuss holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt over his refusal to turn over audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur.

The confrontation began when Greene veered off-topic to discuss former President Donald Trump's trial, prompting Crockett to inquire, "Do you know what we're here for?" Greene responded, "I don't think you know what you're here for. I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you're reading."

This exchange sparked outrage among several Democratic representatives, who expressed their disapproval. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) loudly condemned Greene's remarks, labeling them "disgusting" and "absolutely unacceptable," and moved to have Greene's comments stricken from the record.

To this Greene responded with “Are your feelings hurt? Awww,” Greene replied. “Why don’t you debate me?”

Ocasio-Cortez then replied: “I think it’s pretty self-evident.” And Greene responded: “Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence.”

Despite objections, the committee ruled that Greene's personal attacks were permissible. Crockett, in response, voiced her incredulity and frustration, igniting further controversy online, as per Fox5 DC.

"I'm just curious, just to better understand your ruling: If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody's bleach blonde bad built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?" she said.

Reacting to the incident, Speaker Mike Johnson on Friday said he is disappointed in the chaos and name-calling that happened. “It was not a good look for Congress,” the speaker told ABC News. “We all — I think — need to control the emotions better and get the job done.”
