NEW DELHI: SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Thursday announced that the company would provide free Starlink terminals to fire-affected areas in Los Angeles.
The announcement came in response to reports that TV crews were relying on Starlink’s satellite internet service to broadcast live updates from the fire-hit zones.
A journalist on the ground credited Starlink with enabling real-time coverage amidst connectivity blackouts.
“The only reason you're able to see us right now is because of Starlink. There's absolutely no cell service at all in this whole area,” the reporter said, underscoring the critical role of satellite internet in disaster-hit regions.
