Selena Gomez came under the Republican fire Monday after she broke down on her Instagram story over President Donald Trump's widespread crackdown on illegal immigrants. "I'm sorry," Selena posted alongside the video with a Mexican flag emoji. But then the video was deleted.

“All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise," she said with eyes full of tears.

As the video invited a huge backlash for the singer, she issued another statement that said: "Apparently, it's not ok to show empathy for people."

Right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk asked Selena why she was calling migrants "my people". "Aren't you American?" he posted. "Where was the sobbing over the 100,000 Americans dead from fentanyl poisoning? Where were these tears over the 340,000 children who went missing after being trafficked over our border? Why wasn't there a breakdown for Rachel Nungary, Rachel Morin, or Laken Riley? I guess those Americans weren't "your people?" he wrote.

"Selena Gomez filmed herself ugly crying about the current mass deportations. Because of course the out of touch celebrity with zero understanding of how dangerous our country has become is crying for the criminals being deported. How pathetic," another commentator said.

"How many criminal aliens from Colombia is Selena Gomez willing to host in her walled mansion in LA?" a third user wrote.

"Did Selena Gomez cry like this when Laken Riley was brutally murdered?" another asked.

"Holy hell how can she be this stupid? She thinks all Mexicans are getting deported," one user made fun of her.

"Selena Gomez has a meltdown over Trump deportation of illegal migrants. I don’t understand the need to film yourself in this condition but okay…" one wrote questioning what she was thinking while she filmed and posted it.

Since day one of the Trump administration, the president has been strict in dealing with illegal immigrants. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 956 individuals in a nationwide crackdown.
