‘Anyone who attacks my wife can ... ’: JD Vance warns against racist, sexist remarks on Usha
US vice president JD Vance has strongly condemned racist and sexist attacks targeting his wife while asserting that ethnic hatred has no place in the conservative movement.
In an interview with UnHerd published on Friday, Vance responded strongly to remarks from far right activist Nick Fuentes and others, including former Biden administration press secretary Jen Psaki.
Vance also denounced antisemitism and other forms of racial hostility. “Antisemitism, and all forms of ethnic hatred have no place in the conservative movement. Whether you’re attacking somebody because they’re white or because they’re black or because they’re Jewish, I think it’s disgusting,” he said.
The remarks come amid months of pressure on Vance to publicly censure Fuentes, whose supporters are known as Groypers and have been linked to racist and antisemitic rhetoric. Fuentes has previously targeted Second Lady Usha Vance with slurs and accused the vice president of being a “race traitor” for marrying her.
In the interview, Vance downplayed Fuentes’s broader influence, saying his role within conservative institutions and former president Donald Trump’s political orbit was exaggerated. He argued that such figures were often amplified to distract from substantive debates, including US foreign policy.
Vance’s comments were published shortly after he addressed Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, where he said President Donald Trump had “relegated DEI to the dustbin of history.” He later told the audience that diversity, equity and inclusion policies ran counter to American values and meritocracy. “We don’t treat anybody different because of their race or their sex,” he said.
Fuentes has drawn widespread criticism for past remarks praising Adolf Hitler and for repeatedly making racist and antisemitic statements.
