'Another brown child her husband's movement wants to deport': Democrat reacts to Usha welcoming fourth child with JD Vance
After Usha Vance announced she is pregnant with the fourth child of vice president JD Vance, a flurry of reactions came in.
Democratic commentator Kaivan Shroff commented on X about Usha Vance’s pregnancy and said that Vance's own agenda of deporting immigrants can backfire if he stays married to a brown, Hindu, and Indian-origin woman. The MAGA base is already unhappy with the GOP leader being married to a foreign second lady.
In a post on X, he said: "Congrats to Usha Vance on her pregnancy with yet another brown child that her husband’s political movement wants to deport."
The remark came as Usha and JD announced they are expecting their fourth child this summer. "We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy," the couple said in a social media post.
The couple met as students at Yale Law School and married in 2014. They already have three children, Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. 40-year-old Usha Vance is the first South Asian and Hindu second lady in US history and now also the first vice-presidential spouse to be pregnant while her husband serves in office.
JD Vance has previously expressed concerns about declining birth rates in the United States. At last year’s anti-abortion March for Life rally, he said, "I want more babies in the United States of America."
Vance has also taken a hardline stance on immigration, arguing that mass migration is a threat to US and that large‑scale deportations and tighter border control are needed. He has called mass migration “theft of the American Dream” and backed Trump administration policies to reduce both illegal and legal immigration, including changes to the H‑1B visa system.
The announcement of Usha Vance’s pregnancy comes amid growing debate around her religion and background. In November last year, JD Vance revealed at a conservative event that he hopes his wife may one day embrace his Christian faith despite her Hindu upbringing. He said, "Do I hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved in by church? Yeah, honestly I do wish that. But if she doesn’t, then God says everybody has free will and so that doesn’t cause a problem for me."
The comments made Hindu-American voices angry who accused the VP of religious insensitivity and pandering to Christian nationalists. Vance later clarified that he respects his wife’s beliefs and rejected claims of bigotry. He later said that he loves Usha and she is the greatest blessing of her life.
However, in a later Turning Point USA speech, Vance again said that the US is and always will be a Christian nation in front of a huge MAGA crowd that cheered on.
Regarding parenthood, the couple has spoken about the challenges of raising children as the second most politically influential couple in US politics, after Trump and Melania. Vance said, "I think that there’s always a limelight on the kids, and that’s both good and bad,"
He added that their kids would rather have a private life: "Our eight-year-old really doesn’t like it. He wants to have as private of a life as possible." He added that his five-year-old “who’s a bit more like me” probably enjoys the attention "too much".
Usha herself has been out of the political limelight most of the time, as she is the second lady. She does limited interactions with the press, meets with other leaders, or gives public speeches supporting her husband's political views.
In the case of Vance, the MAGA movement sees the VP as the potential presidential candidate in 2028, but they also question the thought of Usha being the first lady. The White nationalist crowd, which stands beside the VP, has shown discontent about the heritage of her wife. Vance has hit back against these 'racist' allegations against his wife, but his boss Trump, has remained silent on the row.
The news of pregnancy follows recent announcements from other high-profile political figures, including Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, who is expecting her second child, and Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, who is also expecting her fourth.
