WASHINGTON: An al-Qaeda terrorist, suspected to be involved in the Sept 11 attacks, slit the throat of Daniel Pearl, Wall Street Journal reporter kidnapped and killed in Pakistan, a media report said here on Sunday.
Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, a Kuwaiti of Pakistani descent killed Pearl, Time magazine report said quoting Pakistani police sources.
Mohammed is believed by American authorities to have been a key organiser of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and Pentagon in Washington.
Quoting a suspect in the abduction, Fazal Karim, the weekly said Mohammed had drawn the knife across Pearl''s throat as he helped hold the reporter.
A Pakistani court has sentenced to death Omar Ahmed Saeed Sheikh, and given jail terms to three others in this case. Sheikh was released by India in exchange for safe return of hijacked passengers of Indian Airlines plane IC-814 in 1999.
