According to Morgan Warthin, a park spokesperson, the occupants successfully extricated themselves from the 105-degree Fahrenheit (41 degrees Celsius) water following the accident on Thursday morning.

They were subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Warthin said that the road was closed for approximately two hours on Friday to facilitate the removal of the SUV from the 9-foot-deep water.

The Semi-Centennial Geyser, situated near Roaring Mountain between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Junction, has been inactive since its last significant eruption in 1922.

The identities of those involved in the incident were not disclosed by park officials, who also noted that the matter is still under investigation.
