The recent nationwide happiness index revealed 10 US states with happiest and unhappiest employees. According to a research, Alaska received the title of the best state with happiest employees. This index assesses each state's employee satisfaction by considering factors such as income, turnover rates, commute durations, work hours, workplace safety, available paid leave, and overall state positivity levels.

Alaska leads in job satisfaction​

According to SelectSoftware Reviews, Alaska is the state where employees report the highest job satisfaction. Alaska has secured the distinction of having the happiest employees, with shorter weekly work hours averaging 31.3 hours and an annual average salary of $52,000. It has an overall job satisfaction rating of 69.96.

​Rhode Island secures second place ​

Rhode Island stood second with a total score of 56.64. This accomplishment is attributed to its thriving job market, favorable Paid Time Off (PTO) laws, and a low quit rate of just 2.4%. Additionally, Rhode Island boasts the lowest workplace injury rate, of any US state, with only five fatal incidents reported last year.

North Dakota is third US state with happiest employees ​

North Dakota secured third position with a score of 56.40, owing to its annual wage of $47,400 and a brief average commute of merely 17.6 minutes. Comparatively, New York reported the longest commute, averaging 33.5 minutes.

Colorado and Minnesota: Strong performers in employee satisfaction ​

Colorado maintains an average wage of $50,250, accompanied by moderate injury and turnover rates, and consistently maintains average working hours of 39.4 hours weekly, resulting in a total score of 55.76. Minnesota is next on the list, with above-average working hours of 40.2 hours per week, scores 55.26, thanks to its low turnover rate of 1.8% and generous PTO laws.

Nebraska, Maine, Ohio, Arizona, and Indiana with highest employee satisfaction ​

Rounding out the top ten states with the highest employee satisfaction scores are Nebraska, earning a commendable 54.91, followed by Maine with a score of 53.98, Ohio at 52.02, Arizona with 51.69, and Indiana accumulating a total score of 48.84.
